CE Marking is mandatory for flooring sold in the European Economic Area. It confirms compliance with EN 14041 (resilient floor coverings) or EN 13329 (laminate flooring). CE covers fire resistance, formaldehyde emission, slip resistance, and dimensional stability. Without CE, the floor cannot be legally sold in the EU. ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management systems. It is not product-specific - it certifies that the factory has documented procedures for purchasing, production, inspection, and corrective action. ISO 9001 audit is annual. While ISO 9001 does not guarantee any single product meets specification, it dramatically reduces batch-to-batch variation. SHUCHAN FLOORING has been ISO 9001 certified since 2020.
ISO 14001 is the environmental management counterpart to ISO 9001. It covers waste handling, energy use, emissions, and chemical storage. For flooring factories - which use PVC, melamine, and adhesives - ISO 14001 confirms environmentally responsible production. Many European government tenders and LEED-certified projects require ISO 14001 from suppliers. SHUCHAN has held ISO 14001 certification since 2021.
FloorScore is the most recognized indoor air quality (IAQ) certification in North America, administered by SCS Global Services. It tests flooring products for VOC emissions against the California Section 01350 standard - covering 35 volatile organic compounds including formaldehyde. A FloorScore-certified floor contributes to LEED v4 credits and meets the strictest US IAQ requirements. SHUCHAN SPC products carry FloorScore certification.
Beyond the big four, watch for: CARB P2 (California formaldehyde standard, mandatory for laminate in the USA), EPA TSCA Title VI (federal US formaldehyde rule, mirrors CARB P2), REACH (EU chemical safety, lists restricted substances), and Lacey Act (US declaration for wood products). A reputable Chinese factory will provide all applicable certificates on request, with current validity dates.
Beware of fake or expired certificates. Common red flags: certificates without a clear certifying body (TUV, SGS, Intertek, BSI are legitimate), certificates older than 3 years without recertification, certificates that name a different company than your supplier (factories sometimes 'borrow' certificates), and certificates with blurry or altered text. Always cross-check by contacting the certifying body directly.
