SPC is one of the lowest-maintenance floors on the market, but 'low' is not 'zero' - and most SPC damage we see in complaints comes from the wrong cleaning routine, not the plank. This guide covers the full care cycle: daily, weekly, seasonal, and repair.
Daily: dry-clean only. A soft-bristle broom, microfiber sweeper, or vacuum with a hard-floor setting (beater bar OFF - rotating brushes micro-scratch the wear layer). Dust and sand are abrasive; removing them daily is 80% of floor care. Place doormats at every entrance and you remove most of the dust before it reaches the floor.
Weekly: damp mop with a pH-neutral vinyl cleaner diluted per the label, or plain warm water. The mop should be wrung to barely damp - SPC is waterproof, but gallons of water find their way into seams and under planks where they attack the click joints. Never use a steam mop: the 100C+ steam degrades the UV coating and can warp seams, and it is the number-one warranty-voiding mistake.
Forbidden list: ammonia or bleach-based cleaners (dull the UV layer), abrasive powders and scouring pads (scratch), wax or polish (vinyl is already no-wax; wax builds a sticky film that traps dirt), and 'universal' hardwood cleaners with oils. For stubborn marks: pencil eraser for scuffs, isopropyl alcohol on a cloth for marker or tar, a melamine sponge for shoe marks - always test in a corner first.
Furniture protection beats repair. Fit felt pads under every chair and table leg (check them yearly - felt wears through), use soft rubber castor cups under furniture wheels or replace castors with soft W-type wheels, and lift furniture when moving it rather than dragging. Direct sunlight over years can fade any printed floor; UV-filtering window film preserves both the floor and furniture in glass-heavy rooms.
Scratches and repairs: light scuffs often disappear with a vinyl floor polish stick matched to the plank color (our distributors stock touch-up kits for popular decors). Deeper gouges in a single plank are fixed by plank replacement - one beauty of click flooring is swapping a damaged plank without lifting the room. Keep 1-2 spare cartons from the original batch stored flat in a dry room; batches differ slightly in color, and the spare carton is your insurance.
Seasonal and commercial care: in retail or office settings, autoscrubbers with red pads and pH-neutral detergent are safe at low pressure. Deep-clean high-traffic walkways quarterly. For residential, an annual deep clean with an approved vinyl cleaner restores the factory sheen. Rugs deserve a note too: use colorfast, vinyl-safe rugs - rubber-backed mats can stain or discolor vinyl (anti-stain membranes help but prevention is cheaper).
What voids the warranty, in one line each: steam mops; abrasive cleaners or pads; flooding and standing water left for hours; dragging furniture without protection; failure to maintain expansion gaps that causes buckling.
